Rear bumper has Coaxial cable?
Hello,
Been working on the w210 lately. Removed the trunk carpeting and noticed a Coax cable that doesnt attach to anything. Followed it to a hole on the side behind the driverside wheel well. the cable goes behind the bumper where it connects to a black box that then connects to another black box on the passanger side bumper. I look at the box where there are other coax cable in the drunk near the bose amp. Says ant1 ant2 and GPS i think. ALL of them are already connected. Anyone know what it could be? Seems odd that its in the car and not connected.

The coax comes from the console where it served the optional cell phone. The other black box was for the cellular and the back up antenna was in the bumper in case of a roll over so tel-aid could dial out in case of a roll over. both the GPS and cell antenna were located on the roof.

I removed my W210 rear bumper to address some rust bubbles that began appearing around the edges/corners of the rear quarterpanels.
I, too, found underneath the trunk liner on the driver's side TWO coax cable heads not attached to anything. I also found an RS-232-type connector that was unattached to anything hanging out of a harness over the driver's side wheel hump (along with the one of the aforementioned coax cables), and another larger connector with pinch connectors beneath the trunk-mounted CD changer. Again, attached to nothing.
The other coax cable exited the trunk via grommet and snaked its way into a "plate antenna" in the bumper, which also had a black wire running the horizontal length of the bumper. My vehicle had the cellular option I think because I have the teleaid button and cell phone cable in center console (although phone is gone). This "cellular backup" antenna was completely disconnected from the system -- the build sheet shows "349 PREP. FOR EMERGENCY CALL SYSTEM". I guess the cellular phone was a dealer-installed option that they just hooked up upon arrival from Germany (if the customer wanted to pay for it)??
BTW, above the driver's side wheel hump there was a silver box with ANT2 GP(something) and ANT1 coax connectors -- all of which were used by cables. There was also a finned, metal, black box to its left, tucked in vertically between the outside sheet metal and internal supports. It did not have any empty sockets/connector-receivers. Cellular unit?
I'm going to leave the unused wiring in the bumper after I complete rust fixes. Just thought I'd share.
