Question Brake pad life

Wife's MY01 E320S (the wagon), 22k miles in today for B service & a new fuel sending unit.

Service advisor tells her she is within 15% of front pad life - on her SECOND set of pads! First set was down to 5% at her A service (11k miles), had 'em replaced then.

Her driving is more in town than most (70%?), but I was hoping to get an idea of what other folks are seeing before I give the wife a major ration of %$#* about what her left foot is doing resting on the brake pedal!

My break wear warning just came on a couple of days ago with just over 23K. This will be my first replacement.

2006 E500 4matic Wagon
I just had the front pads replaced on my 2000 E430 4Matic with 30k miles. I drive and stop the car pretty hard. I was shocked that they lasted this long. Maybe it has to do with the load you carry in the car?

Mercedes-Benz A190 (W168) and E220CDI (W210)
For the records, front pads with 30k miles and still 50% of material.
