P1700 P1701 Hard shift CEL check engine electronics

I have a E320 1996 W210 MB. I had CEL or check car electronics engine light. the code from OBD II and Mercedes specialist diagnostic tool was P1700. After reading MBworld forums, my mecanic checked all the vaccum lines, replaced upshift relay valve, and after 2-3 days, CEL came back. The car was driving fine in the meantime and the transmission was shifting properly. So my last mecanic, after taking it to 3 others, finally change the vaccum modulator, my car had no vaccum leaks. after replacing the modulator, he adjusted it, and reseting the CEL, the car shifts more smoodly then before, and CEL did not come back. So far i drove it 200 miles. The coast was 100$ including the part (original). If you have code P1700 or transmission shifting issues, first check for vaccum leaks, then replace the vaccum modulator. I noticed i was experiancing hard shift when the car was cold from 1st to 2nd. I also had P1701, that was fixed by replacing the shifter The modulator is located I believe on the driver side attached to the transmission and a vacuum line goes to it. There was transmission oil in the vaccuum line Good luck<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>
