Engine Temp
I JUST GOT THIS 99E320 A COUPLE OF MONTHS AGO AND HAVE NOTICE THE ENGINE TEMP AT JUST BELOW 80C AND THIS WEEKEND NOTICED THE GAUGE SHOWING JUST ABOVE 80C AND WHILE IN TRAFFIC GOES UP TO 100C. I'VE HEARD THIS CAR'S TEMP IS VERY SENSITIVE TO OUTSIDE TEMP AND THIS WEEKEND WAS WARMER THAN IT HAS BEEN.
CAN ANYONE TELL ME WHAT TEMP YOUR CAR RUNS?

As long as your operating temp is between 83C to 100C you are okay. Anything above 115C is a problem. Either your water pump has failed, your electric far, or your engine fan.

THE TEMP GAUGE VARYS BY AS MUCH AS 15 DEGREES DEPENDING ON TRAFFIC. IS THIS NORMAL FOR THIS CAR? THE TEMP GOES UP DURING STOP AND GO AND GOES DOWN AS SOON AS YOU CAN GET MOVING. MOST OTHER CARS THE TEMP GAUGE STAYS THE SAME.
THANKS

Yep that is correct. On my E430. I have even taken off the engine fan. Yesterday here in LA it was like 104F, I was sitting on the 10FWY, and never passed 100C. That's with my AC on. The electric fan in the front will come on at around 94C, and that will stablize the temp. Once you get moving, the temp will go down.

you can always make the fans trigger a tidy bit cooler with some electronic knowledge and patience. ![Big Grin](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
There is even a plug and play kit for the SL Benzes![Smilie](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
it makes the fans kick in about 9ēC cooler.

my 99 430 goes up towards 100 even without the AC going in warmer weather. It's funny how if you're going downhill and you let off the gas, the temp immediately drops below 80C. This is actually my only car with such a huge temp variance. My 01 740iL stays at 109C all the time, in the snow, or in the summer with the AC on...
