Purchase of High Mileage E430
Car has approx. 170k. Has some issues with minor suspension damge (parts replacement fix). A/C may have leak. Upside is that car is "clean". Interior shows low wear/tear. With this mileage would it be an unwise purchase? Getting parts probably wont be an issue as far as pricing is concerned. But again, at this mileage would it be something I should stay away from? My friend is looking to replace his car with a truck, and I may want to get it off his hands.

Only if it's reeeeealy cheap! The A/C will probably not be cheap to fix so do you want to drive around without it? And, it probably has a lot of other neglected items that you don't know about. I would get it inspected at the dealer and get a sense of what it will cost to keep it on the road.

A cheap buy in is never the whole price you will pay. High mileage is ok as these motors were made overbuilt. As evidence how many small V6 cars have an 8.5 quart oil capacity? They will go to 500K before needing a complete rebuild but only if properly maintained. The most critical is the service history and the frequency of oil changes for the motor and tranny and rear dif.
