I have a 1999 E300 Turbo Diesel with 16x7.5 ET 41
I want to put on 1999 E55 18x8 ET 31 and 18x9 ET 35 wheels
Unfortunately I have been unable to solicit a clear yes or no.
thanks in advance

Richard...Feedback on your suspension setup please.
What shocks you have in the car?? stock, Billstein HD, or Sport?
Any premature/uneven tire wear?
Scrapping over speed bumps or driveways?
Alignment issue?
Would you do it all over again or leave it at stock height ...now that you have a few years of experience on the lowered ride?

the wheels will fit fine. it'll be the tires which determine how well. in the front,
the margin for error is so slim that one model tire of X size will fit, whereas
model Y will induce rubbing. big danger up front will be the wheel arch lip, which
is flattened/rolled on the AMG, but left slightly protruding on your car.

RE: Here's my W210 with AMG 18x8 Style III et30 Silver - Front, AMG 18x9 Style III et39 Silver - Rear. Not exactly the wheel set-up to your question.

-No tire rubbing or issues of any kind. I wish I had gone to the next shortest pad for a better look, but then maybe I would have had rubbing issues. Ride is firmer, in part due to the lowering kit, which is a stiffer spring, but also the fact that the tires are a lot more lower in profile, so you get less sidewall flex, and the tire is wider, with a bigger contact patch. The ride is firm, to the point that I can feel road pebbles and road cracks, but it isn't objectionable. It doesn't ride nearly as smooth as running the OEM 16's; everything is a compromise.
I stayed with the OEM shocks, since at the time my car only had around 2,800 miles on it and the shocks were not worn. Going to a shorter shock would probably increase the firmness of the ride, or at least it did when I changed out to shorter shocks on my Harley.
I like the set-up, especially visually, but can tell you that I know I wouldn't like the ride of running 19's or 20's, that's for sure.
