1996 E320-SRS/Explosion
On Saturday, June 18, 2011, I was at a red light waiting to cross an intersection and there was an explosion inside of my car. There was a HUGE boom type sound inside the vehicle and both the driver and passenger seat belts were activated and became excruciatingly tight on myself and my passenger. There was an explosive smell and smoke inside of the car. Both me and my passenger in the front seat of the car suffered burns and skin breakage because of the force of the seat belts. I'm very thankful that I was not on the interstate when this happened - my three year old grandchild was also in the car and I shudder to think of what might have been.
I would appreciate any information that anyone else out there might have about this problem. Of course I'll be bringing it in tomorrow to the dealership. My car is working fine with the exception of the seat belts. Neither the driver nor the passenger seat belt is operating now.
