1997 E 320
Angry Why does the E class rattle so bad!

I have a 1997 E 320 that rattles like crazy! Both front doors have something inside that rattles. One door even has something that rolls around. It sounds like a marble or something. Also my front seats move around when I make a sharp turn. The dealer doesn't seem to be able to solve any of these problems. In other words Mercedes service really sucks! I'm starting to think Lexus is the way to go in luxury cars.

Question MB RATTLES

The noise in the FRONT doors sounds like SOMEBODY forgot to pick up all the parts/pieces when they were inside the doors

The seat FRAMES moving/clicking /clunking are DEFECTIVE SEAT
FRAMES and I would STRONGLY recommend to contact mbusa and complain re the seat frames also tell mbusa that you are aware of the DEFECTIVE design and would like YOUR DEFECTIVE
SEAT FRAMES REPLACED UNDER GOODWILL (BE NICE) and they WILL TAKE CARE of the noise on the front seats as a ex MB tech
the w210 has the seats that will make noise BUT.......
MERCEDES has NOT UPDATED THE DESIGN on the FRAMES
so THE NOISE WILL RETURN
BTW also ask for the UPDATED SEAT MOUNTING BOLTS THEY can HELP on some of the PROBLEMS

GOOD LUCK
MARK

1997 E 320
Hello Mark, thanks for the reply. Your right, when the seats move around it does make a clicking sound. My wife tells me that I'm to picky out rattles, etc. I think when your a company like M.B. & your selling cars that can cost up to $125,000 they souldn't have loose parts making noises. Thanks again for the advice!

1999 E430
Funny, I have a 1999 E430 and the thing that amazes me most is that after almost 50,000 miles the car is as tight as a droum, no rattles at all.

Exclamation Door rattles? Not likely

I understand your frustration and it should not happen to a $50,000 US car. I have owned 1997 E320 and 1998 E430 Sport and currently own a 2002 E55. I am very **** about rattles but the only creaks and noise I had was with the 1997 E320's front AC vents and that was taking care of by the dealer. Was your car door been worked on recently? Because as previous posts stated, a loose screws and loose wires can cause annoying noise. My experience with E-Class is the fit and build are top notch; both the 1997 and 1998 E-Clas had at least 30,000 miles each and both were solid as a rock when I traded them in. It sounds like your dealer tech really SUCKS! Find yourself another dealer to service your car. The dealer I bought my E320 from was the worst and they couldn't fix anything also.

Regarding the seat, it is a known problem for the E-Class. Both of my 98 and 97 E-class had the problem and the solution was to replace the seat frame and track. I haven't notice this with my E55 and I hope I wouldn't. Because with the $75,000 price tag, the seat better be glue to the chassis! By the way, a Lexus is not acceptable. Why would you buy a "glorified" or a "upscale" Toyota? I can't imagine driving Lexus and being service with the other regular Toyota cars.

RE:Rattles

Cannot say I have experienced any of this. My 1999 E430 is really tight and no noises what so ever. 35,000 miles now and very good.

1997 E 320
They "looked" at the doors, but said they couldn't find anything wrong. They did fix the seats, but they started moving around again & making a clicking sound. I plan on telling them about the defective rails, etc. Lexus makes a very good car. The fit & finish on a Ls 430 is much better IMO than the current E class. The E has way to much plastic & cheap materials. I think the new E will be much better. It looks much nicer inside than the old 320 & 430.
