im glad I found this post.
the wiring your questioning is for the motorola (mb) cell phone. back when these cars where new, this was a from of what we know today is bluetooth. But is was hard wired into the center console ran to the head unit phone system. you would here your caller thru your bose speakers.
What I would like to know is,
the connection for the mb motorola phone. how would one connect an iphone in place of the mb phone. lets for say, you have the apple plug & then connect it directly to the cars plug

This is all a bit misleading, let me clarify it....
The original phone system was an WIRED ANALOG system that is no longer in use today and no longer legal in the United States. It used a variety of components spread about the car. It used a PSE and Linear Compensator and Antenna Switch in the trunk (left side) and a cradle, and dedicated Motorola phone (or Nokia in the rest of world). The specialized phone worked with the PSE and created a phone system.
The way to add bluetooth to the car now, is to put in an Argos (which is a complete PSE and bluetooth all in one box that plugs in the trunk)- OR put in the old PSE and add a "puck and tail" bluetooth module. That way you can use any bluetooth phone, including the iPhone.
