Question Gas Preference - Chevron??

Does anybody have any preference on what make of Gas to use in 2001 E430, currently I use Chevron gas in the car but some one was telling me that Techron in Chevron gas can harm some sensors and other items in the Mercedes newer cars. Does anybody know if this is true?

What make of Gas you guys prefer?

Thanks for the input.

I use Chevron gas all the time. Basically, you're fine with any gas from a name-brand store. The only ones I'd steer clear of are the mom-and-pop-owned Stop & Rob stations that you'd find in a town of less than 1,000 people.

fuel brand

Basically any major brand gasoline will contain the same basics. The difference are the additives they use when they send the products to market. A few years ago, Hot Rod magazince, and Turbo Performance magazine took a sampling from all major brands, and found the octane rating to be accurate and or higher than what was posted. They rated the Amoco Premium fuel top, based on cleanliness, and octane consistancy. That is usually why it's a few cents more per gallon, and is called White Fuel.

Unhappy

I have not had very good luck with Chevron in performance cars. It seems to bog the cars down, maybe from all the addatives. I run Mobil at this time in my E55 and E420 and have used Sunoco in the past in a BMW Alpina B6. I stick also to one gas station because I feel comfortable with what's coming from their underground tanks. (no water).

After approximately how many miles on the e55's do you typically get before the fuel light comes on? I am averaging around 280 miles. When I fill up at that point, it takes 18 gallons. Aftet the light comes on, there is at least 3 gallons left in the tank, right?

At least in California all gasoline sold has to have a minium set of additives base on the season. They usually have to put more than required because they deteriorate in the pipeline, while transported, and they have to meet those standards at the pump. There are a few companies that put in additional additives and they usually go out of their way to advertise the fact. I try to get Chevron, Texaco or Mobil whenever I can. On marginal cars or bikes, these brands tend to ping less. To me Arco and Shell tend to ping the most. There is one more caveat. The R+M/2 (Research+Motor) Octane averages numbers are misleading. It's an average and different refiners chose to skew their averages towards Research or towards Motor and that can have an effect on performance or pinging depending on your car or bike. Then to further add to the confusion, many oil companies have trading partners in different regions. So you may pull into a Mobile and they are selling Chevron because they don't have a terminal in the area. Typically though they sell what's called unbranded fuel to each other without any additives and the selling oil company puts their stuff into it.

I used to work for a oil company and that's the inside word.

Any major brand

Chevron, Texaco, etc. I go with major brands and keep away from the small independents. No problems so far.

I prefer to use Chevron since it runs great in the cars I have had. Steer clear from Arco. I filled up Arco in my old Accord and well lets just say that I had a 1K repair bill to replace the rotor in the engine. The dealer and my mechanic told me it went bad because of ****ty gas. When they asked me what kind of gas I was filling up, I said Arco. They mechanic started having a heart attack, he insisted that I never go to Arco again, and I have yet to since my experience there. Yes its cheaper, but not worth it in the long run. Exxon and Mobil are also excellent gasolines.

Chevron, Exxon, Texaco, and Mobil are worth it.

Shell V-Power all my cars start pinging and knocking like no tomorrow.

Unocal 76, Arco, or any other mom and pop like Valero, or whatever stay away from. They may be cheap but you will pay in the end.

I use pretty much any type of gas brand, but majority is Diamond Shamrock or Chevron.

Chevron 92 octane.

How do I know i'm actually getting 92 since it comes out of the same nozzle as 87 and 89? All you have to do is select the octane rating on a button.

well we are lucky here in the gulf. all stations let them be Shell, Mobil, Sunco, NAFT, etc etc etc sell the same gas (petrol) with same almost identical additives and octane rating of 114

therefore i never had problem with gas origniating from anywhere.. even the salavaged one in the black market.. hehe

we dont have any choice of octane when its comes to gas..its one and only ..

I use BP Amoco 93 almost exclusively. Sometimes I will use Mobil because of the proximity of some of the stations. I stay away from the generics and the gas offered at the 7-11 stores (Citgo I think).

MB AMG, with regard to unleaded gas, each station has an underground tank for regular and one for premium. Midgrade is simply a mixture of the two. The pump, even though there is just one nozzle, can draw from one or both tanks. I guess you don't really know for sure what you are getting, although you would probably feel it in the performance of your car if you got regular instead of premium.

Love Texaco 93, but most of them have shut down in my area. I now use mostly Shell 93 or BP/Amoco 93. No problems in my Benz or Porsche.

I tend to use Hess or Sunoco brands in my 2000 E55. Here in PA they are 93 Octane.

In response to the amount, it varies based on driving conditions. I usually go 350-360 with 18 gallons. What I have noticed, however, is that the MPG that the car reports is optomistic. Calculating out I get say 19.5 mpg. The car will say 22-23. Don't know why the computer would be wrong considering it is correct in the amount of gas that is in the tank, and it is correct in the distance..guess it can't do a simple division.
