1997 e320 power lock/fob issue (i searched but found no real answer lol)

1997 e320 power lock/fob issue (i searched but found no real answer lol)
I have a 1997 e320 with 101k miles that is in pretty great condition with the exception of the key fob not unlocking/locking the doors:
1. I have checked all fuses
2. the key fob works (I tried the whole point at the smart phone camera trick and battery check)
3. my rear view mirror doesn't light up when fob is pressed (tried replacing it to no avail)
4. door locks are operable from the inside with button, but will not work on passenger side door from outside with key. Door lock will hesitate then quit all together.
Any ideas or direction will be greatly appreciated, I took it to a local mercedes shop that said I had a network error but couldn't elaborate but had no trouble charging me $65 for a diagnostic fee (another story for another day lol)...
