1996 E320 Steering lock
Hello,
This is my first time posting a question and I may have posted this in the wrong place yesterday.
Please help me!! My 1996 E320 needed a new ignition switch. After removing old switch, we installed the old ignition lock into a new switch/sleeve and the steering lock mechanism is locked into position, if it needs to be "unlocked" what is the procedure for doing this?<!-- google_ad_section_end -->
I have noticed several people have had the same issue, so I was hoping someone has a solution they could share. Thanks. <!-- / message -->

Did the other posts you read where other people had the issue give you any ideas? It would be helpful if you posted links to those message threads and questions about what you don't understand.
Why did you need to change the switch? Why do you think it is locked? Is something installed improperly or broken? Does the key turn?
NOTE: Most people with the W210 will have a different type of key than was used in 1996 and 1997 (at least in the US). Make sure you are aware of that when reading about procedures and problems on the message boards.
