This is cool
mine only seems to work with the close function and not the open. I checked my owner's manual and while it does indicate that the windows will close with the remote, it doesn't say anything about opening them. I have a 97 E420 sport. For those that posted about being able to open the windows with the remote, what years are your vehicles?
does this work on 1996 models too?? im very impressed!
So far I confirmed:
You can lock the car and close all windows and sunroof with the IR remote or the key in the doors or trunk locks.
You can unlock the car and open all of the windows with the key in the doors or trunk lock if it was already locked.
I haven't had time to get to the dealer so if anyone has the magic combination, please share.
maybe you could only open them once in that blue moon because since these old infrared remotes have a very short range and sometimes in my car even when i press the button and im standing bahind the car, it wont open,
so if u notice that the windows wont open just keep the button pressed and wiggle the remote a little, they will open then.
im starting to wonder all this keeping the button pressed will drain the remote's battery much faster :p

Don't think that I have a 4 windows button? where is it?
Once you know that works, do the unlock test. You know the doors are now locked. So turn the key to the unlock position and hold it there until all of the windows start to roll down. Stop at any by turning the key back to the center position.
. BTW, isn't the key only meant to operate the lock in which you place the key? I always assumed the key was just a backup in case the battery goes dead on the smart key.
The key should also work in the trunk lock to work all of the door locks. Yours must be different because you said it only moved the drivers door lock. It should activate the central locking just like your remote does.
) keyhole's either not connected to the central lock system or its just f_cked. Either way, the small key attached to the smart remote's too painful to keep in place - at least I have comfort knowing that I can still get into the car when my remote batteries goes dead. :o In any case, has anyone had the same experience, and can this be fixed (e.g. wiring/re-wiring) - the doors, not the trunk?
The only way the windows go down is if you hold the open position in the passenger side door lock as described in the manual. My E420 has no lock on the driver's side to do this.
MB has the up window thing covered; the down is not too good.
However, that was it. No more fun with the remote because it dosn't work now (not great). I have new batteries in and I am stumped. I walked around to the back of the car and it worked once! ahhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!
It has to be the sequence in which I am performing this. I've tried a number of clicks on the remote etc... with no luck. I consider myself pretty logical when it comes to this type of stuff but this one has me feeling a little silly.
This work 3 or 4 times in a row and then stopped working. I am going to try it this afternoon on the way to lunch..we'll see.
okay, (i guess this only works for 95 to 97 models with the remote and the red and green LEDs)
get ur key and go to the drivers door and open the car, then close it but keep the button pressed for AT LEAST 3 seconds. then press and hold the button again to open the car AIMING it to the rear view mirror which is inside the car to open the windows. this should work. i noticed that the windows will only open when the lcd panel below the speedo lights up.
so when u come for the first time in the morning to open ur car, this lcd panel wont light up until u open the door. so the way out is the one i mentioned above b'cos when u are closing the car and keeping the button pressed, the car recognizes that and wants to close the windows so when u open the car again it will be able to recognize that u want to open the windows. try it
I did as you said and opened the door, closed it and then held the button down on the key for a few seconds while aiming it at the driver door. I then tried aiming the key at the rearview mirror while holding the button down, the green light blinked a few times and nothing. I then proceeded to do the whole thing over again by openning the door, etc...This time after holding the button down aimed at the driver door for a few seconds to lock the doors, I waited a second and then aimed the key at the driver door again, holding the button down to unlock. Bingo, the green light kept blinking and the windows started to come down. Once I let go of the button they stopped, I held it down once again and they rolled back up, again back down and so on and so forth. I tried the whole sequence several times but it didn't work everytime, just whenever it wanted to I guess but at least I got it to work!!!

I was doing this in the parking lot of my office and people were looking at me like I was crazy, rolling my windows up and down...too funny! :p
