Transmission Dipstick
99 E320 722.6 trans. Both the local stealers want about $75 for the dipstick tool. Anybody in the Tidewater VA area that can loan me one? I don't mind paying that much for a tool that gets alot of use, but thats too much for something I'll use maybe once a year.

If you measure your fluid level using the flexible wire type of dipstick, rather than the proper one then you will be getting an incorrect reading.
The reason is that the proper one when fully inserted does not touch the bottom of the sump...whereas the wire type does. This will lead you to conclude that you box is overfilled.

You can use the home made types, but you need to read the BW thread and adjust the levels accordingly. I used a small diameter poly tube (with a thermocouple down the center!). A little hard to read the level.
Someone suggested using one of the large plastic tie-wraps that Home Depot sells. Needs to be about 40". I want to try that next time. Would need to file bottom end away to about 1/4" width so it would go by the stop like the MB unit.
