Sun roof won't slide back ...
The sun roof on my 98 E430 lifts up and down, but only slides back an inch or two before getting stuck. Ive been doing some research and its sounds like the cables might have to be replaced - ? Correct?
Also could someone provide a list of the parts needed, so when I take it apart Ill have the parts ready which needes/should be replaced!
Thanks

I would take it apart first since we'd only be guessing on what if any parts are needed.
Sunroofs get stuck for several reasons such as the motor or motor logic is defective, the gear train is broken, something is stuck in the track, the lubricant has dried out or an incompatible lubricant was applied or a cable is broken. There are several Sunroof DIYs on benzworld/W210/top of forum.

Was afraid I would need to take it apart first. The motor keeps trying while I hold the switch and I can hear it getting bogged down by the sun roof getting stuck in the "tracks". It even looks like the sun roof gets pulled further back on one side vs the other. I'll take it apart and make my shopping list and share my findings.
Thanks for the reply

E430MN - i am in the same boat as you, mine actually fina;lly stopped going up & down also. I went to the first page on forum and 2nd line down in STICKIES - Check here first : Sunroof Repair
There is a sunroof repair tutorial , very detailed instructions & pics. It originates from Mercedesclub/UK. I am "waiting for some ballz" to tackle. You need to replace teh cabling system..so check it out and source the [parts. Let me know where you get them from coz i may be right behind you. Right now i have to cover my sunroof if i park outside in rain...otherwise she is Garage Queen status the rest of the time. GOOD LUCK & keep us posted!!
