W210 Parking Brake Pedal Spring

hello crew - I've had a dig around the forums with no luck, so sorry if I've missed the answer to this... The small spring (1.5cm) that returns the lobe into the ratchet in the park brake pedal mechanism has broken and I've ordered a new one ($5 - is this the cheapest MB part in existence??) Thing is, I know one end of the spring sits into the lobe itself, (as shown in picture) but I cannot for the life of me locate where the other end goes. Any clues would be appreciated! Cheers, Jamie

The MB diagram I have shows the spring attaching to a hole in a small lever arm and the other end on the edge of the mounting bracket (no hole). Shows as #6 in diagram.

(Sorry for image quality. My scanner is not working so I shot my monitor with my digital camera to see how that would work.)

Thanks Richard - not quite sure what you mean by 'edge of mounting bracket' ? My first post pic is the same perspective as your diagram but the bracket drops back and away, with no lip for the spring. Hmmmm. Mine is a 96/97 - perhaps they changed it for the later update?

No but it is in the one I attached. The spring is #6 in that diagram. Click on the thumbnail to see a larger image. The one you posted does not have the spring shown.

Hmmm. I fear they are different. If you look at my first photo you'll see the area behind the bottom of the spring is radically different to your diagram. It's smooth with no lip for a spring to grab whatsoever. But thank you anyway.

Well, there's always a chance a change was made at some point. I plugged 97 E320 into my W210 service manual DVD and came up with the diagram I posted. Maybe someone else will have an idea.
