Cant get new mirror on!!!

I had to replace my entire driver side mirror and motor. I got one (OEM used) off eBay. I came fully together. For the life of me I can not get the housing off!! I tried searching and youtube. How do I get it off so I can mount the 3 screws!! Oh, my other one was easy to get off since I smashed the housing to pieces on my garage door.

Thanks!

I wish I can help you but I'm new to merc. Have you tried looking for a service / repair manual for your car??

i've seen 2 styles of the 210, 1 for the face lift .
mirror catch facelift

one forum member posted that their car had this release system. it's been a
while but i think he was owner of a euro model.
mirror catch 202

mirror catch 96-99

the 00 release took me a whole day of off/on again attempts. it can be quite
finicky. i have a pretty good idea how to encourage its release now, depending
on the mood, weather and car. here is a thread - in case it helps

Raymond,

Thanks for those videos. I actually found them in my searching. Where my issue is the mirror (facelift) is off the car and fully assembled. Its hard to get leverage to bend the mirror back and insert a tool to hit that tab. Im not sure how I am going to get the casing off. Ive given up today and will try again tomorrow. Grrrrrr!!!

Instead of trying to fold it, remove the rubber seal(as much as possible) and if memory serves me right, there should be a small opening in base of the mirror corresponding to the area where the clip is located. You'll need a good light and a long flat head screwdriver of proper thickness. It's tricky business best of luck to you.

i think your best bet will be to use a couple of small wooden blocks to wedge
the hinged parts open. it's a strong spring, as you have found, and once the
unit is off the car and the mirror cover replaced, it's very difficult to open again
as you've lost the advantage of the hard point (door) mount and the leverage
to push against the spring.

i don't think you have much to work with either if you peeled back the rubber
weather gasket and try to access through the tiny opening but gads....that's
like trying to pick a lock (i've done this before but it's very tedious)

another method would be to wedge the hinge open, using increasingly
thicker wood thicknesses and try to screw it back onto the door......before
trying to remove the cover.

this is one of those 'learned the hard way' lessons. when buying a mirror
assembly, ask that the cover be replaced loosely before shipment.

Well at work, that's how I do it, I do have a light that can fit through the little holes and an array of pics and screwdrivers though...

One piece of advice though when pushing on the clip don't push it back(if the mirror would be still on the car that would be pushing the little clip away from the car), only push it side to side, one of the guys at work did it ones and it got stuck between the cover and the housing Took me half an hour to get it free...

Locate the clip (you may have to fold the glass to get access to the lower part) and use a screwdriver to pry away a little bit the click-in spring. Once you found it, goes quite easy.
