DIY on tailgate hydraulic strut replacement?

Is there a DIY on replacement of tailgate hydraulic struts for E series wagons? Mine are weak and don't lift the tailgate up completely. Recently, they've started squeaking but I can't get to the actual strut to lubricate it.
Thanks!

Bump on this thread

Hello. I'm a newbie to this board but a long time member of the pelican boards and I appreciate the value these communities offer owners and DYI mechanics.

I just purchased replacement struts for my wifes '05 E500 4matic Wagon (w211?). While waiting for the parts to arrive, if joined this forum and been searching the related threads. I can't seem to find a definitive set of instructions on how to access the struts to replace them. I followed one thread to purchase the parts (http://www.autopartsbylou.com). I also found a thread that a member posted a PDF of instructions for replacement on the w210 but it didn't have anything about removal of the trim and wasn't specifically for my w211 model.

I run Mac OS at my home and office (creative agency) so I can't purchase the usual service manuals on disks. Is there anyone on the board that can post instructions on how to remove the trim pieces for this part replacement?

Thank you! Patrick

Look for the thread on this forum on how to replace the headliner. Most parts just snap together -- like 'Legos'.
