1997 CAN Problem ?
I have a 1997 W210 (UK) since new and only in last year or so has it started to have some issues.
The RF remote stopped working and could only open using the infra-red on the front doors. Also windows, indicators stop randomly and start up again ( without battery disconnect/connect)
Disconnecting and reconnecting battery fixes issue, but does re-occur.
Recently battery started to drain, worked out that 200mA was being drawn. Took out fuse 4 (under seat) and that fixed issue (only 20mA parasitic current now).
My rear right window broke a long time ago and I fixed this using a screw in the up position. There is no power to the motor and puddle light does not work. After researching a bit more recently, the problem for the other issues above could be the DCM ( on this model its attached to the window motor).
Today, I disconnected the cables going into the offending DCM, and other issues above seem to have gone away, but need to give it a few weeks to be sure.
My question is, if this is a DCM issue, will leaving the cables disconnected be ok ?
