removing volume knob on 2000 command unit?

I'm now the happy owner of a 2000 wagon. One thing I want to fix is the volume control knob on the command system. I've read all the threads on this and get conflicting information. Most say the volume knob just pulls off but I've tried and it won't budge. I don't want to break something. Another source details removing the entire command unit to get the knob off. So how the heck do I get this thing off to replace it?!

I think 2000 model is not removable.. I mean, you can remove it (pretty hard pull) but is not sold separatly! onle for symple radio or newer command! can you post pic of your unit? i think s the same for the M class 2000

Thanks for the reply. Earlier today I did more research and finally dug up what I was looking for. You are correct on the knob. It doesn't appear that the replacement knobs that are available will work. Mine look the same but require a shoulder so it is "trapped" behind the face of the command unit where it attaches to a knurled control stem. I found a nice pictorial on how to get to it. As for a replacement knob I think you can get one from someplace in Germany, but being a woodworker with a lathe I think I'll take this opportunity to turn a pair out of some nice wood and have some custom wood knobs on my command unit. Wish me luck!
