Backup lights not working 1995 E320

Hi,

I have a 1995 E320 Wagon with backup lights that are not working and I need to pass an inspection this month.
I have checked the fuse (#7) and everything else on that fuse is working fine.
Also checked at the contact for the bulbs in the back. Nothing doing.
Any thoughts on where the weak point of this system might be?
Any thoughts on getting to the end point of the wire that is actuating, or not,
these lights? I would like to check that and am very curious as to exactly where it is and how I could get to it.

Thanks very much,
Jim Lee

Do you have the W124 rather then W210 by any chance?
Assuming you have a W124(old body style)

If you have power at fuse #7 Check take a look at the Exterior Lamp Failure Monitoring Module, it should have power on C1 #13 GRY/YEL when you engage the sfiter in R if you don't, take a look at the Selector Switch on the left side of the tranny.
If you do have power coming into the Lamp Failure Module, check if power comes out at C1 #7 GRY/YEL/WHT (Right lamp) and #63 GRY/YEL (Left lamp), power in and no power out would mean a bad module.

Good luck, and if it is indeed a W124, you might want to post in the W124 rather then the W210 forum for better answers.

Mr. Konstatin,

Thanks very much for the response. It is in fact a 124 and I posted here in error. I have finally got myself under the car though and thought that this nuetral safety switch would have relatively easy access. No such luck as you probably already know. I am not clear on your instructions for testing for power. Can you give me really specific locations for these testing points?

I am going to check the relay if I can figure out where it is. I have a hard copy work manual but (Brooklands Books) but it is not very helpful.

Thanks very much,
Jim Lee
