New Alpine AM/FM/CD no sound

I put a new Alpine head unit in my 98 E320 wagon. I wired it with a Best Buy supplied wiring adapter for a VW which seemed correct for my connections. The unit comes on, the volume control display goes up and down, the CD runs and keeps track of tracks etc. The deck remembers the presets. It turns on and off with the key like it is supposed to. But it doesn't make a sound. The only thing I can think of is that there is an amp somewhere that is not getting switched on? And if there is an amp, does it use the speaker level inputs? Obviously, the head unit has a remote out for an amp but there were no instructions to hook it up. Does anyone have a answer? Thanks in advance.

You need to hook up the remote wire to the harness. And, you need a harness that has pre amps out to the speaker leads. There is a bose amp.

Thanks Joeker, I worked at a Hi Fi store for several years but I didn't do the installs. Best Buy was no help. But I had guessed that there must be an amp in the system. Unfortunately, I have no idea what the color code is for the wiring to get it right. Any idea where the amp might be located? I might be able to figure it out if I can find the amp.

The amp is on the drivers side mounted on the side in the trunk. You'll have to remove the liner. You can't miss it, it's big.

guessing it should be in the usual place which is behind/above the right rear
wheel well.
