Rear Door Bose Audio Problems

Hi all,
My main problem is with the rear speakers in my 1998 E320. The system, a Bose unit, worked great and still does. However, the rear door speakers have stopped emitting sound. Oddly, when you put your ear next to them they have a faint buzz, as if they have power. Also, a continuity test shows that they working electronically.

Pop the door trim off and check for power.

You could also just plug in any speaker and check for sound.

The speakers are 3.5" cheapies. No Bose stamp on either the front or rear door speakers, at least in my case.

If yours has sound with a test speaker, you could always swap out the OEM units for an aftermarket unit - any 3.5" speaker should drop right into the cage, plug and play.

You could also go a bit larger but if you're not considering changing out head units or any other components, I'd simply buy a mid-priced one online. Probably will set you back $40.

Don't worry about 2/4 ohm speakers.

The rear doors do so little 'work' the slight increase in impedance won't matter much. And the variance of impedance between 'identical' speaker pairs rated at 2ohms can run from 1.5-3.

Likewise, speakers rated at 4 ohms can range from 3-5 ohms. Only very high-end equipment will come out of the box with a very tight range of observed (vs rated) impedance.
