Rear Drivers Side Window Broke
Over the weekend when I tried to raise the back window, I heard a metal snap! The window went up and looked OK. When traveling to work the next day the window dropped all the way down. I was able to raise the window by hand but it soon would drop again. I have it at MB today and I'll see what they say. Probablly the infamous window regulator. Warranty ran out June 15, 2003. Go figure.

Complain that the window had been making noise for some time and the car is only 3 weeks over warranty. You "might" get lucky and receive a break on the work or even get it covered completely. Some service managers have a heart

The back windows use a cable, 2 pullies and a takeup real on the motor to operate the windows. The cables bind up and get stuck or break. The dealer wants over $200 for the part and the original one is rivited on inside the door. It is not worth getting one at a salvage yard because it will probably break soon too.

Thanks guys for all the replies. I had my service advisor run it pass MB warranty since even he admitted that it was a known problem and they covered 100% of the repairs. It must be my lucky day - maybe the power ball is next.

This just happend to me today!
On the same window in fact. Last night, a passenger of mine had rolled up the window and I heard a loud snap and the window closed with an equally loud thug against the frame. Fortunately, my 2000 E430 is still under warranty and I will take it in this week for repair. The window is currently stuck in the down position, so I cannot drive it and leave it parked unattended.
