Exaust sound
Hey guys,
I was driving the other day and I noticed a sound that comes only when I accelerate. I had my windows down and was going about 40 mph and when I accelerate I hear like a air release sound from underneath the car. I was worried that my cats might be leaking air, but I could be wrong because I had the cats replaced in march 2012. So what could possibilly be that sound? Could it be the muffled up exaust sound? Thanks in advance.

It could have something to do with the exhaust system. Check to see if during the cat repair the system was not put back together (or welded if that's what you did) properly.

Hey thanks Musikmann,
Tomorrow i am taking my car to the local muffler shop to get the car resonator delete and change the muffler to a magnaflow muffler. So while I am there I will ask the guy to check it. But just inform you that I only hear the sound when I roll down the windows, I can't hear that sound inside the cabin while driving. Thanks again for you info.

just a heads up on those magnaflows, i found them to be very droney in the cabin at cruising rpms, very nice at higher rpms. also pulling off of lights you will find that the car loses quite a bit of torque if its a straight through design (most magnaflows), other than that they are very well build mufflers. but if you dont like drone then i would say try finding an e55 muffler.

Wait what do you mean it will loose a bit of torque? I don't know much about mufflers and torque. Tomorrow morning I am only going to do the resonator delete and then I am going to see how it sounds like and then add the magnaflow muffler or the e55 mufflers if they are available. I am looking more for that v8 sound instead of that muffled up typical Benz sound. I also don't the droney feeling. Is it like the buzzing noise? Thanks again.

well from the lost of back pressure the car's gas pedal feel flat. doesnt pick up speed as fast when you are going from a stop. also the droney noise is a very deep tone that kinda just hums in the whole cabin.

Oh ok, I didn't know about losing torque. I know about the droney noises in the cabin. I am looking for that droney sound. But losing torque!! Now I mind that. What would you suggest me to do here? I want the v8 growl but I am not willing to loose torque. I did the resonator delete this morning and I notice just a little deep engine sound from the exaust. I am not satisfied with that and so I am waiting for your suggestion to what to do. Thanks very much again.
