Transmission swap project

Hey guys, im going to be attempting on swapping the 5 speed transmission in my E290 TD to a 6 speed. Im planning on taking the 6 speed box from a 2000 or newer w210. Do you think it will work in saving me some money when driving at higher speeds?? or will i just end up wasting my time and money on this project?

Thanks
Darian

First find out final gear ratios of 5th and 6th gear of each tranny respectively to see how much of a difference it we're talking about. And second if you're only worried about highway performance you might want to swap or re-gear the rear end instead, which will drop down the highway Rpms but will increase consumption in the city.

The 5 speed manual box on a 290 TD is a 714.4.

The 6 speed manual box is a 716.6.
