2001 E320 Head Light Replacement

Hi all!

I recently purchased a used 2001 E320 for my wife. Great car and love driving it. She had the large head light go out on the passenger side. Base on what I've read, it sounds like it is the low beam. Is this the correct replacement bulb?

http://www.walmart.com/ip/Sylvania-H...Specifications

Should I replace both sides at the same time?

Thanks!!!

yes, H7 is the correct bulb unless you have xenon option

Not necessarily...my first 210 had washers but not Xenons. The best way to tell is if you have clear lenses then you have Xenons, if not, you don't.

well.....no, that won't do either.

no 210 left the factory with clear lens (projectors).

the only way to be sure is to check for a ballast (square metal thing ). that
isn't difficult.

ballast

the outer lens are clear on the cars with xenon. it uses the diffused glass right behind the outer lens while non-xenon headlights have a diffused outer lens.

bill clinton didn't view oral sex as sex. the outer lens may be clear, but the
headlight design doesn't normally fall under the description of clear if you're
hanging out at HIDPlanet. to be accurate we can simply post photos instead
of playing the semantics game

Simplest way to check is to see what color the working low beam is... Xenons would be either white or blueish and halogen would be regular yellow.
My friends car has headlight washer package and is just halogens so that isn't a sure way to check.

you cannot affirmatively determine the type of lighting system based solely on
light color as filament bulbs can be had in blueish tinged designs.

further confusing the issue is when one uses gas labels in an attempt to differentiate
between bulb design/type

you can have a filament based bulb which uses halogen/krypton/xenon

non-filament, arc based bulbs (almost always xenon based) are more accurately
referred to as HID lights (high intensity discharge)

the OP is asking how to tell if his 210 uses halogen H7 or the D2R HID lighting system

using the photos above is one easy way. the other is to lift the hood to see
if the ballast is stuck to the exterior of the headlight.

judging by color, washer, or projector will not confirm anything, though they
will give you a clue, but still just a guess

I believe that the lights look like the bottom picture above, but I'll have to check.

I had to get it changed for my wife before I left town on business. I used these:

Hope these were alright???

you should be fine. your selection is from one of many H7 variants and they all
jockey for position trying to convince buyers that their bulb is the best.
