tyre choice ?

Folks

have a 1999 e240 2.4l petrol 4 door saloon on 16 inch rims with 205/55/16. (should be 215/55/16 ??? i am informed by shop)

using falken ziex912 on the car - quiet but not very good grip in wet with lots of understeer and tyre wear is fast.

used also Goodyear rSSport - very very noisy droning sound no matter how many times balanced and checked. perfromance good

have been offered by my tyre shop

1. goodyear nct5
2. pirelli p7
3. federal 555?

what tyre do you folks use now and what is recomended and tyre pressure front and back for my car.

thanks

NB. have tried other 16 rims and tyres. droning goes so not wheel bearing and the sound appeared when i changed the tyres. gets really annoying around 80-100 km/h

Yes, the correct tire size is 215/55R16 93H. On the 99 E300 we just sold, it had Michelin Primacy MXV4s. It didn't see a lot of snow this winter, but when it did they were great. Great in rain.

out of the three choices you listed, I would pick the pirelli p7. theyre good all season tires, minimal road noise, and great treadwear.

went to get the tyres and ended up getting a set of plus size brabus 18" rims instead. not sure why as had no intentio of changing rims but got them anyway. handling definately improved and sharpened up over the 16' rims and ride quality is still fairly good.

sizes are 265/35/18 back and 245/40/18 on front
