How in the MBWorld do you replace the license plate lights without having to remove the trunk panel in 2000 E320 Sadan?

I get a check lights alter in my car. The only light is out is one of the license plate lights "One is working and the other is not". Can this cause the check lights malfunction light to come on ?

you have to work through the inner lining of the trunk lid to find the bulbs. removing the outer cover won't help you get to them.

granted, it's not a 5 min job. but more like 15 mins or so and painless. you do
need to pop each of those plastic rivet puppies out (inner post first, then outer
ribbed sleeve). i just lined them in the trunk gutter systematically worked my
way to the lights. did this a month ago and replaced the bulbs with mike's
white LEDs (azn optics). cool beans

Thank you all. All of that for a lic plate light !! German engineering at it's best !! What an ego !! To me it is designed as if it is not suppose to be ever replaced !!! LOL

Does the lic plate light, tigger check lights alert in the dashboard in thios 2000 E320 Model?

yes these are all part of the lamp malfunction interrogation system

Raymond g-, you mentioned an LED kit for these lights. I am very interested in this because it seems like I am going through these bulbs way too much. Can you tell me where you got the kit and if possible a part number or name for the kit? Thanks

says in my post - from azn optics (forum member). 2 bulbs ran about $20
(dont remember). straight replacements but LED array, not filament. using
them for about half year, no problems.
