I have a 1997 E320, I have a problem with my air conditioner compressor will not kick in because the Economy setting on the AC control is stuck in the on position. Anybody have any ideal why the Economy setting will not go off.

That means that there is an error with the A/C system. Mine was on, and all I had to do was evacuate and recharge the system and fixed mine, and the light turned off.

When the charge runs low the compressor will no longer come on, and if the level gets low enough the EC button will light and not turn off. That is to tell you to get it fixed. Odds are that you have a leak that should be located and repaired.
Some of us are hard headed and insist on charging the system up with a bit of dye, in hopes that the leak will prove to be easy locate and fix. The pressure from the charging can should be enough to allow you to turn off the EC button and allow the compressor to come on. Of course, you will have to decide whether you are able to DIY an A/C system.
Pray that you do not have a leaky evaporator. I did. Apparently the first item on the assembly line was the evaporator and the rest of the car was assembled around it. Big money!
