W210 facelift headlamp lens removal

Hi everybody... isn't this my friend post right here on MBWorld?

I'm actually ready for a trip to northern alberta which requires very good headlight pattern..

Well.. my current situation is like this: I replaced my old brownish factory headlamp with brand new factory unit, costs a lot.. after a week, the driver side headlamp had been smashed by a van. The headlight assembly has no crack at all( I removed the bumper and inspected it).. but the highbeam part of bent, and cannot be adjusted, the highbeam is now pointing to the place where low beam points to... I talked to the ICBC(insurance company).. everyone.. nobody wanna replace the headlight. And.. I had already tried everything to help to save the smashed headlamp...

NOW.... what I wanna do is to exchange the headlamp lense from between the old one and the new one. Put the new lens on the old headlamp.

The post facelift headlamp assembly's lens is GLUED to the assembly.. so I have no idea how easy is to separate the lens from the assembly. And how can I GLUE is back???? .. I just have these two question..

If anyone had done this on the facelift model, please give me some tip or photo..

THanks...

beside the glue, is there anything else inside the lens to make it fix to the assembly??

it's not a permanent glue. just a simple heat compliant sealant. you'll need to
put the unit into an oven and carefully heat until the sealant softens. then quickly
pry off the headlight lens with flat blade (to get things started) and finger pressure.

you'll then need to reheat again a bit and soften the sealant again. I would
recommend heating a little more as you want the sealant to be even more
pliable.

press the replacement lens into the groove. press lens firmly with towel.
maybe continue by flipping over and press down on assembly against several
thicknesses of towels and rock the lens firmly home using body pressure (but
not over 200#)

you can use a heat gun but i don't prefer that method as one part will begin
to cool while the heat gun is being applied to the opposite side. the oven
method will be much more even.

you may need to remove rubber bits and pieces before you place in the
oven. the last time i did this i was doing a complete retrofit so it was all part
of the process anyway.

lens removal has been covered before here so use search words "retrofit
Depo" and you'll see a humongous thread from a couple of years back.

hidplanet dot com and many other car headlight retrofit forums detail
headlight lens removal as part of retrofitting
