CEL reset
Have 2001 E430 with CEL on . I had the code read and it was the coolant temperature sensor. I replaced the sensor but the CEL is still on. How do you reset the light?

If you did not clear the code before installing the new sensor, the fault is still in memory, therefore you now have to go back and clear the fault. Good Luck

If I would have known how to do that reset I would not have asked the question . I do not own a code reader . So, how do I reset the thing ?

Well do you know the story about the bear in the woods, that is what happened to you---Go back to the person who you said "read it" and ask him if he knows the story about the bear in the woods----if he says Oh why diden't you tell me you wanted the fault cancelled. If he dosen;t say that------come on back and tell us what he did said.
PS: I like you other statement about being stupid!! I never thought about that

without the ODBII reader with reset function on hand, you either borrow one
from the neighbor/friend, go to an independent/MB repair shop, or, depending
on the origin of the CEL trigger, get lucky...fix it, and after a while, hope that
it extinguishes by itself (some do, some don't, depending on the trigger).
to get an idea how ODBII is set up, causes, false positives, auto reset, etc
you can read this. jump to page 20
there may be other, easier primers but i'm too lazy to hunt. use Google
