Top Half of Rear Defroster Not Working
The top half of the rear defroster stopped working on my 2001 E430 4-Matic. The bottom 11 strips work fine. I noticed there are breaks in the two vertical strips just below the sections that don't work. The breaks appear to be original design, as they are very even.
There was never any tinting done on the rear window.
Any ideas?

Out Of Control!!
Things are never simple on an MB, even the lowly rear defroster.
Although hard to believe there are about fifty pages of diagnosis material on the rear defroster with numerous B fault identifiers(non OBD)
The one wire system includes the AC pushbutton switch, front SAM and the fused PSE which is under rear seat. Its a 30amp Maxi fuse.(check the fuse)
Done correctly you will need someone with DAS Xentry, which will flip to the HHT to do the test and find the faulty component.
If the fuse is good and you battery test at plus 11V, I assure you the problem is not a crank position sensor, however a rear defroster system issue. Good Luck!!

Plutoe,
Thanks for the heads up. The grid on the window looked complicated enough to keep me from messing with it. The dealer will look at it on Thursday. I'll post their diagnosis.
