thegeneraltso,
You may be out of luck! You would need the smoke taillights for 2000+ E55 wagon. However, no E55 Wagons were imported to the US. So you would have a difficult time finding them. I doubt that a Mercedes dealer would import them for you. You need to import them. Your parts would be a direct fit and no modifications would be needed.

lightman, congrats on job well done with your avantgarde lights.
u mentioned the shaving with the dremel tool.

'04 Silverado Z71 - sold all my Benzes and need another!
lightman, they look great. I also did this on my 97 E but I put the clear top lights off the 2000+ E.
007, there aren't really step by step instructions anyone could give. If you can handle a Dremel tool, you'll do just find. The outer portions of the lights that mount to the body bolt right in without any modifications. The trunk lights is where you have to grind the housing on the back to make them sit flush with your trunk. You mainly grind the edges along the inner side of the trunk opposite of the mounting bolts. Just shave enough not to penetrate the housing and to make them sit flush. The plugs/wiring is exactly the same so just plug them right in when you're done. Good luck and have fun with it, though LorinserLV2 said it right, the grinding is kind of boring but the end result fully makes up for it!

I went with the clear on top as well on my 96. I like the contrast with the black car. Dave's white car looks good with the smoked top.
You can get a set off of German Ebay
Mercedes E-Klasse (W210)
Limousine Facelift
**NEU**
Rückleuchten Satz
LOOK AVANTGARDE

007, I am in the LA area in the valley. You can try www.ebay.com of course. I got mine at All Star Auto, one of the local junkyards. Here are their numbers for reference on anything you might need for your Benz. Unfortunately, they are all out of E55 lights at the moment but I think that All Star Auto might have a set of the clear tops if you're interested. All Star tends to be the best, then Star and finally Harout's, but Harout's is a little pricey.
All Star Auto: (818) 834-0498
Star Benz: (818) 897-9180
Harout's: (818) 834-8881
Good luck and post pics. when you're done with the upgrade!

Here are the correct part numbers for these tail lights. Any dealer should be able to order them:
I believe these to be the correct part numbers:
A210-820-84-64 right fender (494 +954)
A210-820-83-64 left fender (494 +954)
A210-820-89-64 left lid (494 +954)
A210-820-90-64 right lid (494 +954)
494 = USA
954 = Avantegarde trim = E55 trim
