What a different a new set of tire can make

Until now, I was pretty comfortable with the tires of my E320 (Continental Contour). Though they're not as smooth or quiet as my GS300 (Michelline MXV), they provide enough traction.

I bought the Benz with the Continental tires, and all along I thought the road noise & rough tires are part of the car characteristics. Also, when I go over little bump, I could feel the shimmy from the rear (perhaps it has to do w/ tires wear too, since I put close to 50K mile on it).

That's the case until today, when I have my tires replaced with Michelline MXV4+ ($570 out the door at Costco). Then I realize that Continental tires are just piece of crap. With the Michellin, the car stick to the roar, quiet. No more "diesel noise like" when I slow down on the freeway or about to stop. No shimmy, no bounce.

The car handles significantly better: quiet, good traction, smooth ride.

Check out user feedback from Tirerack, buyer give Continental a red-grade (highly pissed :-)). Michellin score pretty high (Recommend)

Can't believe Mercedes would put crappy tires into car that cost $50K. Lexus at least put Eagle GA (as good as Michellin) into their cars.

The lowest quote I got from tire store are $160/tire. And that's not included installation and road hazar. Tirerack is $120/piece. But add w/ shipping and installation, it's more than $600. Beside, I need a place where I can run too in case of warranty fix/replacement.

Gonna put back-up camera into my car, as next project.

This is the camera I'm gona get

I put on new Conti-Extemene, I read the feedback on Tirerack, it is rated very high. I think you are talking about the regular conti touring.

These tires are very responsive and tire wear is very good.

I agree about the noise, and I agree about MB putting Conti Touring on Mercedes.

Michellin is much better tire and also very quiet.

I just bought these tires, I guess I have to live with it for a while.

Good thing is it was raining hard last night, I had no problem going over standing water at high speed, it held the road very well, it really handles good. Again, the only problem is noise. But with high thread wear, you take your pick Noise or tread wear.

Please post pics of the camera and the installation. Maybe I will do this as well.
