and my black cloud strikes again! alternator now
So last night totally out of the blue my alternator craps the bed on me. So ok.. suck as it may I figure no biggie. I pull the fan, shroud and top mounting bolt. When I get to the bottom one it's stuck and I mean STUCK! With a little leverage I get the bolt to crack and slowly start backing out. I then disconnect the alternator and pull it out. Today I had it rebuilt and went to reinstall it. That's when I noticed the inner bottom mounting tab is busted! I've been looking to find any kind of bolts that attach the alternator mounting bracket to the block bu no such luck.. it actually looks like the mount is part of the block itself? PLEASE tell me I'm wrong and that I CAN remove it to either have it repaired or replaced.... PLEASE!!!

yea... you hit the nail on the head! I'm screwed... I had a guy come by to take a look at today and he says he can't weld it unless I pull the timing cover out. HOWEVER if i'm going THAT far into it I'm not putting a broken/repaired piece back in. that would be dumb IMO. However I found one at a junk yard and if I pull it off myself it'll cost me 22$ plus my time. I honestly have NO idea how involved this job is though? I've looked at pics of the timing cover itself and it looks like there's a bunch of gaskets to contend with but otherwise I have no clue just yet. Do you have any experience with this doing the job? if not does anyone else here??

that's what I did yesterday. The guy said it needs to come out to fix it as he only had an aluminum spool gun and not set up to do TIG. He also said he doubted that you could even get in there with a TIG set up anyway. SO I'm trying to get things set up to start pulling off the cover and just replace it.
