96 E320 A/C Problem...

The air coming out of the right side passenger vents is icy cold, but the air coming out of my side, the drivers side, is warm. Some one mentioned to me this might be the actuator, does anyone here have an idea if this is the case? Where is this part located in the car?

Thanks for any help,
Marty.

I had the same problem last month and it was because i was out of R134. Fill up with R134 before you do anything more expensive.

Unhappy

The thread I read said run the car for 3 minutes.

I'll re-run the tests with the car warmed up and sensor 8 info, then I'll post again.

Okay, re-ran the tests with the car fully warmed up, the error codes are the same, here is the new sensor data;

1 - 22
2 - 35
3 - 15
4 - 13
5 - 11
6 - 97
7 - 16
8 - 61

After a while the driver side gets cold too, just takes much long than the passenger side.

Thanks!

Do the error codes mean the affected parts have to be replaced?

Is there a way to clear the codes?

Thanks,
Marty.

I finally got round to trying to do this yesterday, however when I press both left and right auto for 5 seconds nothing happens. I tried this multiple times sometimes holding much longer, nothing.

Is this the right combination to clear the codes?

Okay, ran the tests again as required, here is the sensor data;

1 - 23
2 - 48
3 - 28
4 - 23
5 - 25
6 - 9.4
7 - 09
8 - 40
10- 6.0
11 - 2.6
12 - 4.3
20 - 2.0
21 - 06

The error codes were the same as last time, so I cleared them.
After that I drove about 45 miles and retested, the errors never came back again.

Okay, the left side is still blowing warm while the right side is blowing cold, any ideas on how to fix this?

Many thanks,
Marty.

What would you expect 7 and 8 to be?

This would cause one side to blow hot and the other cold?

Thanks,
Marty.

Cool

I've also had this issue before. Owning a E430, S500 and now E55 I can tell you by experience that your better off going to a AC shop and let them evacuation, then recharge your R-134a. The cold/warm side is due to low freon, but in either case you can try and fix yourself which will most likely cost you more money on the long run.

Last summer I had the same issue your currently having. Paid the man $140 and never looked back. AC troubleshooting can be frustrating and costly without the proper gear.

Hope that helps

The sad thing is, we went to a mechanic and he claimed to have recharged the A/C, that was when one side was blowing hot and the other cold.
Then he told us it was the actuator malfunctioning and it would be expensive to fix, but he could do. I had a bad feeling about the whole situation and walked away. Now I'm feeling like the guy scammed us....

Sounds fishy to me. Did you go to a shop that specializes in Mercedes? When I had the same issue and my AC read out stated low freon. I called around and ask if they A.know this type of car W210 and B. if they can properly diagnose it and fix it. I was surprised that a few said no.

I'd get a 2nd opinion

*Highly doubt your actuator is malfunction with your symptoms

Back in April I had the same problem. If the compressor couldn't make the pressure wouldn't that create an error code too, which I didn't have?

Thanks,
Marty.

Ah.. sorry about that was rushing out to the beach for a quick jog

Back to the topic. They drained the freon and re-charged to proper specs. As stated if you simply ask them if they have done W210 before then it should be a cake walk for them.

It needs to be done properly-

1 year later and my AC is still ice cold.

Where is this car? If the temps are in C, it sounds way too hot for the UK. If theyre in F, just open a window.
