Transmission issue

I have a 2001 E430 with 190K miles. It has been a superb automobile. Runs and drives great today. Very little has ever gone wrong with the car . Nothing but praise for the Benz guys.
Now I have an issue I need some insight on from all of you. Yesterday there was a whining noise coming from I am guessing here the transmission . It sounded like a bus shifting gears. It lasted till I stopped car . Restarted car and it was fine. Did this 3 times. Today it has continued . Except today there was a hard shift on 2 occasions . I thought low fluid . Had that checked and it was within limits at 25 Degrees and 85 degrees C. Car drives fine and tranny pulls like before just the whine now.
My thoughts are valve body /filter . I am not that strong with transmissions so I need you help with possible could be's . Thanks in advance

You car has a built-in diagnostic system for the transmission. I suggest having it scanned (SDS) rather than throw parts at the problem.

I would like to second that advice, find a transmission shop that does a lot of MB business and they likely have the needed SDS diagnostic software, however, before doing that, whining sounds typically indicate issues with fluid flow within the torque converter, therefore if you checked the fluid level, and found to be ok------the companion question would be------when was the last time you changed the fluid filter
