Automatic Transmission Question

Per previous auto trans messages and posts, I have a few questions not answered before.

My car: '99 E320

When searching online for an AT filter, two transmission models were displayed:

722.607 and 722.622

How do I find out which one I need?

Also, listed is the factory ATF, can any other brand be substituted? This is the "sealed" transmission. Some have suggested Mobil 1 synthetic, but which one?

NOTE: When searching this site, I found that this is a very touchy subject. I am not trying to reopen a can of worms. If you can help me please post a reply.

Thanks,

Rob

Stick with the factory ATF. Don't put motor oil ( mobil 1 synthetic ) in your transmission. Just kidding.

Please dont put any other Trans/Fluid, You must stick to MB, it is expensive around $10 a quart.

Who will be doing the oil change?
I ask, because it is a sealed transmission, and the filler of the fluid has a red tab, the tab has to be twisted to open the dipstick tube. Keep in mind you wont find a dipstick in there. MB sells it as a tool, around $100.

Also, the way the fluid is checked for proper level is by monitoring the temp of engine along with temp marking on the dipstick tool.

Here is a trick you may want to use, drain the torque convertor, and the pan. BECAREFULL and save all the fluid, measure the old fluid and put back exactly what came out. I think it should take 7.3L. after draining the Torque and the pan.

Rob,

Call your MB dealer parts dept, give them your VIN number and they will tell you about the tranny part number.

Since, you will be using the MB oem oil, just buy the kit from them, I dont think it is going to be a big difference, oh by the way, make sure you get the red plastic tab to lock the transmission filler cap, try to get 2, sometime you may drop it, they are like 20 Cents.

You may want to put a magnet in the pan, ask them if they have magnet for your car, also ask them where to put it inside the pan.
