1999 E320 Rear Light UpGrade
Anyways, I've been wanting to make some modifications to my car. I read another post about swapping the rear taillights of a newer model E-class. I am aware that there are 2 types, one with a smoked top line, and one with a clear top line. There was a post saying that they needed modifications to fit properly, and there were other posts saying that there were no modifications needed. I was wondering if anyone could help me clear this up. Also if anyone has a website address where I can order these lights (preferably the clear ones), I would appreciate it.
Thanks everyone,
Chris
The new tails found on the 00-up is NOT a direct fit onto a 99-below trunk, though the outer assemblies are fine.
I recommend finding a high end body shop that deals with MBs and other high line cars who is willing to do the modification for you.
The assemblies need a flush fit to compress the foam seals that prevent water from seeping through.
Also if anyone has a website address where I can order these lights (preferably the clear ones)
Newer style Tail Lights on 1998 w210??"
This is the exact topic we're discussing. I have a 99 e class as well, I just said '98 for the topic to clear any confusion, because the change in the e-class (w210) came mid year in 1999, so the cars made after 6/99 - 02 are the same I believe. You'll know if yours is made after 6/99 because you have the multifunction steering wheel with volume control etc, which my older style '99 doesn't have
As far as i've heard from the posts on various forums, the avantgarde tail lights(clear line I believe), will fit the older style e-class like we have, with very minor filing to the trunk pieces. I posted the part numbers on the other thread for the avantgarde set...
Hope this helps...
