metal key doesn't fit in key fob , why not ???

no, what i said was , that both the NEW key fob and metal key WORK !!!
the problem is , that the metal key does NOT fit into the key fob .
the metal key doesn't go all the way down into the key fob, and therefore doesn't lock in place, and therefore , i can't put the key fob on the key chain.
i hope this is more clearer. so what can be the problem ???
p.s. based upon your photos of the 4 different MB key fobs , it matches my chrome key to my metal key

regarding the old fob, it stop working right after a huge thunder storm here in brooklyn, plus i had the batteries 2032 instead of 2025, inside the fob .
but they worked for a year . so maybe the combination of water getting into the fob and the wrong batteries, who knows the reason ? but i think any reputable car electronics professional should be able to fix problem.
both 2025 and 2032 r 3 volt batteries, just the 2032 is a little bit thicker and was more of a tight fit into the key fob
i'm trying to understand the nature of the malfunction. you're asking for tips
on how to get the older key repaired.

They have probably supplied the wrong metal key. I assume when you received it the two parts were separate?

key fob problem

i got in one express mail enveloped and there where 2 stapled baggies togather, in each one there was the fob and the other , the metalic key.
i tested both key and fob and they both open my car.
also i compared the 4 MB key fobs with their metalic key types,
and the chrome key fob matched the metalic key type too.
so it doesn't make sense. i plan to go to my local MB dealership , to get the answer

I contacted Skyland Mercedes in Asheville, NC on 10/11/18 and was able to send JPG files of the necessary documents in order to obtain a replacement Smartkey which my wife lost. Yesterday (10/31/18), after a 2.5 hours stay and $443 later we had our replacement Smartkey. The new Smartkey itself was $264, a program request of $90 and key mechanic charge of $60. Considering the lengthy time there and the lousy procedural matters of the service manager I informed them that I would not return to their dealership.

I'm sorry for your loss...really. The time you spent should have been more like a few minutes. The
programming, if any, may only take seconds....and more often than not, could have been done by
you at home. It simply requires that the new Smartkey be inserted into the ignition and let the
codes interrogate each other and say hello. The key mechanic at the dealer performs nothing
as the metal key, along with the Smartkey, is imaged in Dallas, TX (unless something has changed)
and FedExed to the dealer.

But now you know, for future reference, that you can post on the forum and see what the collective
experiences and tips are from the members. Many of the tips here can save thousands of dollars.

You may not have had the flexibility to shop around and checking competing dealers. A competitive
price for a Smartkey replacement is more like $300, plus or minus $100.
over dealer prices.

I just call California dealer who gave me good prices in the past for my keyless Go key.
Those are more expensive than smart key and present price is $350 + $125 for programming.
Flat (service) keys are no longer available, at least for my 2014 model.
Than I called Las Vegas dealer for total quote of $675 and they say they need to see the car to place the order, but not for picking up the key.
So not only the prices vary a lot between locations (what else is new?) but seems the programming is BS and simple price gouging.

I just check Husker (my favorite MB dealer) and they sell chrome keys for $130. https://www.mbdirectparts.com/oem-pa...21176636069999
The picture is not clear and description says about transmitter, but it is the key no doubt. This is the price I paid for chrome key over 10 years ago.
Worth emailing them what is procedure.
