Transmission woes

I have a 2001 E430 with 193K on it so far. I have a transmission problem (I think) . When first started and driving begins there is a loud whirr/whine from tranny or engine. As car warms up the whine quiets down but still can be heard at times. Car runs and shifts fine all the while except for first thing in the morning. At around town speed the car is fine except for the small whine. At interstate speeds above 60/65 the car starts jumping , hiccups, hesitating for an instant, seems almost like downshifting then immediately shifts back to normal. Usually happens when accelerating or going uphill. Its ok on level ground until you accelerate. Car pulls fine shifts as if perfect any other time. I am not a tranny guy but I am thinking torque converter.
I am not sure but since it shifts ok I am leaning toward the converter. Any input will be as always appreciated

I believe the whining you hear is from the torque converter lack of fluid------I suggest you check your fluid!!

Ok i know how to find drain plug and such on the converter . How do I check fluid? I have read about it but all the articles say is to drain it and put plug back and refill transmission. Do you not put fluid in the converter? I am not a transmission guy so don't hate me. Sorry to be so stupid. Just cant find anything about it. I found the Pelican auto site and they have a great article about changing the filter and it tells how to drain the converter but after that it says nothing about refilling it. So, I am in the dark a bit.
After a further read It is my understanding that the 2001 E430 torque converter doesn't have a drain plug. If that's the case ????????

You are confused and your responses are confusing others----slow down and forget about draining anything until you determine the current level!!

To do that go on e-bay and purchase an MB transmission fluid level finder---when you do that come back and ask for instructions on how to use the tool!!
