Question Can't turn off floor vents??

My 2000 E320 has been a dream, and I'm starting to get used to the climate control settings (accustomed to analog settings), but I'm confused by one thing: there seems to be no way to heat/cool the cabin without having the floor vents on. The settings include floor/cabin, floor/windshield, floor only, and windshield only. Is there really no cabin-only (or cabin-windshield) setting?

Another note: my passenger this morning noticed that he had no air on his feet (no output from that register), though there was plenty going to my feet (they still haven't thawed from the drive in). Any thoughts on this?

Okay, if there are supposed to be 6 options, what would cause some to not be available? I only have 4 (windshield, windshield+floor, floor, floor+cabin). I could understand it if the controller let me select a setting but the flaps didn't adjust, but those are the only 4 settings it cycles through (unless you're counting the windshield defrost setting, which is a separate button, of course).

(As a note: the manual doesn't give any detail on this - it simply says to keep pushing the button "repeatedly until the requested symbol is displayed.")

::BUMP::

Can anyone confirm (or deny) that there are more settings in the climate control than I have? I'm still trying to determine if I have a problem or if it's just an oddity of the model.

If you want to solve this foot well problem----you will have to spend some money(do a flap test),but before you do read your manual so you know what you are talking about.

An example---did you know that when the car is cold and after you start the car both foot well flaps are opened for thirty seconds, that helps eliminate window fogging.

You have an automatic system with a pre programmed air distribution selection------if you don't like that, then you use the manual selection and choose a different air distribution path -------once again this all spelled out in the owners manual

PS: your foot well problem is because one of the flap vacuum actuators is faulty or thevacuum line is damaged or the switchover block for that flap is faulty!!-----you will learn this when you do the flap test.

Thanks for the solution, but can the condescending tone, please. I have, in fact, read the manual. Yes, I knew about the rear seating area, but that's not among the settings on that button (at least in my car, though I do have vents in the rear), so those aren't relevant to the discussion. Yes, I know about the automatic settings, but that is also not pertinent to the discussion.

In your original reply, you stated that there was more than one setting that didn't use the floor vents. In my car, that is patently not the case - only one setting (windshield only) leaves out the floor vents in the front (and, I assume, the rear). I have read nearly every word in the manual, and have found nothing that indicates what settings should be on that button - I've already quoted you the line from the manual, which has no information on what settings should show.

I realize you're trying to be helpful, but you could try starting with the assumption that people aren't lying when they tell you something.

Again, thank you for the information on the flap test. I'll eventually get around to that, but it's a secondary issue, since I rarely have passengers. The real issue is my inability to control air flow away from my feet.
