1999 Mercedes E320 key not turning, steering locked
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have a 1999 E320 with 127000 KM. The steering is locked with wheels in straight position. The key fob will neither unlock the steering nor turn at all. When I insert the key, display says "Key". Flashers start flashing even with the flasher switch off. I have to disconnect the battery. Battery is fully charged. Doors do not lock / unlock with the remote which has new battries. Cluster works and shows mileage only. Tried to reset remote for doors to lock / unlock bet no luck. I can live with the remote not working but can not unlock the steering and key will not turn at all. Also locked in park position.
Also why would the flashers start to work as soon as I connect the battery.

Sounds like you either have a bad key or a bad ignition control module(you have confirmed that you have at least at least 12v battery), hopefully you have a second key and have tried the second key??

Although you say your mechanic is stupid, the good news is that it may not start on the first try, it does start on the second. That's a big improvement over walking or renting a camel to go to work!!
