When i got my 2001 e430 the fan clutch didnt work and the car was really silent when driving, I got it replaced and now it makes like an airplane-sort of noise when accelerating, is this normal??

Depending on the conditions, a properly operating fan clutch may cause the fan to roar. Here in Arizona, I hear mine most of the spring/summer/fall, but not in the winter when it is a chilly 75F.

Here's a nice post with the Mercedes description in the form of a PDF as to how the fan should work;

Not sure if it's supposed to be like that here in Indiana. That thing sucks down power no problem as well

I have had bad luck with "off-brand" (Chinese manufactured) fan clutches. OEM like Sachs/Meyle has always worked well for me though they tend to be more expensive.

Was the cheaper clutch you bought one of the "off -brands"?

I bought the Uro one from AutoHausAZ for $103...looking back, I should have spent a little more for the Fichtel-Sachs. A mercedes should never sound like a truck coming down the street! Are there any other brands out there for fan clutches?
