E320 transmission..
soo.. with that in mind, and not knowing how long it was driven with no fluid, if at all. i decided to plug the hole and fill up the trans to see what it would do before i went searching for another trans.
moves in Park (til it hits the parking pawl) and it also moves in neutral. Reverse and drive its like the brakes are being applied.
i would assume the trans is probably toast, but the steering lock and shifter lock does not work.
I'm just curious why is that and maybe somebody has an idea of whats ruined in there (burned up trans/ruined conductor plate). hopefully i'll be dropping the pan tomorrow to inspect.
I think it's "possible" (won't guess as to how probable) that mechanically the trans is still OK. Once the fluid is pumped out, it can't work anymore, which could prevent further damage. Pulling the pan should give you a better idea from what's resting on the bottom.
Did you check the fluid level with the dipstick after refilling?
