MB Star tool
I was planning on getting my car scanned this week at the local indy shop for like 80 bucks I think they charge. Is it worth it to get my own star tool? I found one for about 480$ laptop and everything.

Why scan the car if all is well!! and two what software \tool is he going to use?? and three 500 bucks is a good price as long as it includes the mux(the thing between the laptop and car) if not, the current C4 mux itself is 600 and older PART D mux that I use is 360----so be careful-----do a Google search there are 10000000 sellers and watch out for the BSBillys trying to sell you crap brake pads!!

My benz is not well. With no cel I have no way of knowing whats going on. With 230000 miles a lot can be wrong. I found this http://www.aliexpress.com/item/2013-...730754550.html

Out Of Control!!
Remember we drive fifteen year old cars and something always needs fixing, however 230000 miles is low mileage.
If you do not have a cel than you have issues with body and chassis systems(seats, windows, AC and lights as an example), minor inconveniences but you can still drive the car.
The DAS Xentry system you have referenced is complete , just be careful and ask for references because you will be purchasing a system on an old laptop(slow) and the current version is not 09_2012 it is 11_2013,however your car is a 1999 therefore to diagnose your car you would need to have at least a version for 2000 so the 09_2012 system will work just fine.
Remember that there are no manuals and normally it will take you a month to learn how to navigate the system, let alone diagnose cars.
Just do your homework and study up on the systems capabilities before you jump in then you will enjoy a steep learning curve.

I am definitely going to look into it more.Plus for 480 I can barely afford it. I think it would come in really handy later on once I learn how to use it. So I might just buy it.
