Mercedes Benz E320
Spilled coffee on center console
I have a 1999 E320. I spilled coffee on central console. Now all controls on centeral console have started working. My indicator doesn't work either. Worst - my car has gone in panic mode. The tow switch is constantly on, and as sooon as i enter my car the panic siren starts and my rear passenger light is constantly on.
Help!!! I have no idea what to do.

If you are a little mechanically minded then all you do is remove the wood surrounding the gear change...and try to dry it all out as best you can. You could get lucky. Remove the black plastic around the gear stick...then pull firmly on the switch panel to lift up.
Do a search...this is an unfortunately common occurrence.
(For the avoidance of doubt...I am talking about a w210 E class).

to the OP: one thing you probably want to avoid is continued energizing of the
circuitry and making things worse. quit driving or trying to....and get plenty of
ventilation, contact cleaner, etc . pack with uncooked rice (dessicant) where
you can
the transmission module board is a delicate part and liquid may have weeped
and followed the cable down and zapping it.
the console / spilled liquid is a glaring achilles heel in the 210. no quick or easy
answers. USE THE SEARCH FEATURE and search for keywords e.g. "spilled console" and read.

Obviously the Mercedes engineer's don't drink coffee and drive. Have you seen the cup holders on the R230? Incredibly poor design.

The only reason MB started installing cup holders in the first place was for the US market. Germans take their driving very seriously and see no reason to drink anything in their cars.

Just to clarify...
Please understand that I have read countless forums on this subject but I need to be absolutely certain about this. Please forgive me if this has been covered before but some of the info is conflicting.
My daughter has a 2000 E320 and spilled some of her drink on the console. Now we are stuck in Park (I can use the emergency release to get to D) and stuck in "limp" mode with a check engine light on. I have tried drying and carefully cleaning the circuitry in the shifter with circuit cleaner, but no change,.
So is the only solution to change out the entire shifter mechanism ? It appears the board that controls things is in the shifter. I hear reference to shifter control modules, but I assume this is not my problem since we know a drink was spilled.
Any clarification would be great appreciated before I remove and replace the entire shifter mechanism. Thank you for your patience.

Probably needs shifter box to get out of limp mode
I spilled coffee on my gear shift and needed to replace the shifter box. That was not difficult BUT I had to get a dealer to reset the error code to get it out of limp home mode.
