Upgrading factory sound system - BOSE

I have a 99 E320 with the BOSE sound system. I am thinking of adding an amplifier with a subwoofer. To go with that, I want to get another amplifier to drive my inside speakers. I want to keep my factory radio. Some audio stores say you can & cannot add amplifiers or other speakers using the factory setup. Things to do with ohms and the way BOSE has their system set up.

Please help. I need to know if I can add amplifiers to my stock speakers or buy aftermarket speakers w/ its own amplifiers.

Thanks

Ja..you can get all new equipment for your car! I got a quote from a local well known and respected high-end Auto Stereo place and they said putting all new stuff in, or..adding things here and there was definately possible! I asked for everything: new amps; new radio/cd player with satellite radio; subwoofers, etc., etc., and was quoted $3000...YOUCH!!!<G> Personally I think the standard Bose system is pretty good (IMHO)! If you aren't satisfied with the sound of the Bose components however, thier size/type and locations are a good starting point for new equipment since Bose determined everything exactly for your particular cars interior using sophisticted anaylisis algorithims, i.e., a good place to start for new drivers etc., etc.! Good luck! Otto

radio.

Raj, Call Cord Williams over at AVC audio on West Colonial Drive in Winter Garden. He should be able to answer all of your questions, plus help you out with the install, and or equipment (He does it for a living). He was a big help with my E430, when I had questions.

to give you an idea, i stopped by the local install shop this weekend and here's what i got for a quote:

-XS 4-channel amp $500
-MB Quart Q-series $450 (front only)
-Alpine 10 inch sub w/box (sealed) $300
-Labor $400 @$50/hr

i don't have all the details off the top of my head. i've been thinking about an install for a while but i'm taking my time with it. i'll probably go in to talk to the guy at least 2 more times before i even consider comitting anything. let me know how it goes. since we seem to be interested in similar goals maybe we can trade experiences. feel free to email.
