Power Loss below 4000rpm

Hi All,

My E430 has developed an issue where the acceleration is reduced below 4000rpm but when you get to this it picks up enough to lurch forward significantly and pulls as it should. Thought it maybe the fuel filter so thats on the to do list but it wouldn't pull so well up top if this was blocked.

I thought it may be the MAF but changed it (albeit to a cheap one to test it). There was a definite performance gain but it is still bogged down below 4k.

I noticed recently the Right Hand exhaust flexi joint is blowing. Could this be the engine correcting the fuel mixture due to the lack of exhaust gas passing the secondry O2 sensor?

Anyone got any ideas? If it lost the power above 4k I'd suggest it was lack of fuel or blocked air filter etc.

Thanks in Advance!

If theres no CEL then get it scanned at an indy shop then go from there. Anything else is just a guess.

Daimler recommends replacing the fuel filter every 60,000 but mine went 80,000 with no fuel starvation symptoms at all. An out of range MAF should give you a CEL so I think you can rule that out. As advised, get the codes read; there might be some pending ones that haven't tripped any dashboard warning lights yet.

I don't know what to say about your flexi joint and that is the first time I have heard of that happening.
